Special Diet? – What to Order!

Skip Ahead to your diet of interest:

Gluten Free | Vegetarian | Pescatarian | Vegan | Dairy Free | Low Carb | Keto | Slow Carb

We get a lot of questions about how our menu can fit special dietary concerns. As a diet-tinkerer myself, I know the struggle. Luckily Zendiggi is super flexible with options.

We promise you wont feel ‘left out’ or super limited when you order at Zendiggi.

In this post, I will outline what our menu can do for your diet and offer up a sample orders!

Gluten Free

All Kebabs, Rice, Salad,  Soups, Condiments and Sides except:

  • Bread
  • Gyro meat
  • Fries

Example order: Beef & Chicken Combo 50/50  Platter (rice + salad) with a cup of Lentil Soup!

Note: Though our Falafel is Gluten Free, It is fried in the same fryer that fries some gluten containing items.

Vegetarian

We are a Kebab House, but we kick butt at vegetarian options… everything below is vegetarian:

  • Falafel Everything (Sandwich/ Platter/ 50/50 / Side)
  • All of the sides:
    • Hummus, Baba Ganoush etc
    • Fries / Mediterranean Fries
    • Yogurt Dip
  • Baklava for Dessert

Example Order: Falafel Platter 50/50, Mediterranean Fries and Baba Ganoush!

Pescatarian

Our Salmon Kebab is ridiculously good. Marinated, Skewered and Grilled Fillet of Salmon over any style plate that you prefer. We will even make a salmon sandwich if you ask…Its kind of a hidden menu item 😉

Example Order: Salmon Kebab Platter 50/50

Vegan

All Falafel Items, Most Sides, All Salads, Lentil Soups. Just ask for no cheese and tahini instead of yogurt.

Example Order: Falafel Platter, Lentil Soup, Shirazi Salad No Feta Cheese

Dairy Free

Most kebabs, most sides, all soups.

What to skip: Yogurt, Feta Cheese and Lamb Kebab (Marinade has yogurt in it)

Order any platter (except the Lamb Kebab) and ask for…

  1. No Cheese
  2. Tahini on the Side, instead of Yogurt (tahini is made from sesame seeds)

Example Order:  Beef/ Chicken Combination Platter 50/50, No Feta Cheese, Tahini instead of Yogurt.

Low Carb

Kebab + Salad + Dressing + Yogurt or Tahini. It doesn’t get lower carb than this. (Just skip the bread and rice)

Example Order:  Chicken Kebab Salad, with yogurt or tahini sauce, oil and vinegar, No Pita Bread.

Keto

Ah, trying to stay in Ketosis to be a fat burning machine?? Zendiggi has got you covered in the high fat foods department.

Our ‘least lean’ proteins are the following:

  • Chicken Gyro (made from chicken thighs)
  • Salmon
  • Kubideh
  • Beef

Sources of dietary fats to work with are:

  • Tahini Sauce
  • Yogurt
  • Feta Cheese
  • Garlic Mayo

Example Order: Half Size Salmon Kebab Salad – Extra Feta Cheese – Side of Tahini & Garlic Mayo – No Pita

Slow Carb

I thought I would include a section about our lowest glycemic index carbohydrates. (Carbs that raise your blood sugar least)

  1. Our Lentil and Bean Soups
  2. Whole Wheat Bread
  3. Basmati Rice: Surprisingly, Basmati Rice is similar to brown rice in the way that it effects blood sugar

If you have any question feel free to ask! We look forward to serving you soon. Stay healthy friends.

How to Order at Zendiggi Like a Pro

New customers sometimes have trouble putting their Kebab desires into words. I thought I would put together a quick guide to help new customers order like the Pros.

There are 2 main things:

  1. What kind of Kebab/Protein you want and…
  2. How you want it: Sandwich, Platter, 50/50, or Salad

The Proteins:

  • Kubideh Kebab
  • Beef Kebab
  • Chicken Kebab
  • Lamb Kebab
  • Beef Gyro
  • Chicken Gyro
  • Falafel
  • Cornish Hen
  • Salmon Kebab

Served as:

Sandwich = Toasty Flatbread + Veggies + Sauce

Platter = Basmati Rice + Grilled Tomato

50/50 = Basmati Rice + Salad

Salad = Garden Salad + Pita Bread

Sides:

Sides are pretty strait forward.

Some notes:

-Sandwiches: sauce can be yogurt (tzatziki/white sauce) or tahini.

-Platters come with a side of Yogurt and Shirazi Salad.

-50/50’s and Salads get yogurt + oil and vinegar

-Full platters get 2 skewers… this means Combos!

-Cornish Hen is on the bone, so it makes a tricky sandwich.

-Falafel comes with tahini.

-Everything else comes standard with yogurt.

-You can swap Yogurt or Tahini.

Some common mix-ups…

–Gyro is ground beef, roasted on a vertical broiler, Lamb Kebab is cubes of leg of lamb- marinated, skewered and grilled over an open flame grill.

–Chicken Kebab is cubes of chicken breast, marinated, skewered and grilled. Chicken Gyro is marinated chicken thighs, roasted on a vertical broiler.

-“Platter Salad/ Salad Platter“… Generally if you say platter, the person taking your order will think you want rice.

Specials

We make some pretty amazing stews, but not regularly. Check the specials board at the counter to see what stews are available.

The Zendiggi Team has Got Your Back!

They will hear you and ask the right questions to get your order translated into the correct Zendiggi-speak. 😀

Why is Zendiggi Rice so Special?

So what makes our rice so special??

Two things:

1. The rice we buy.
2. Our fancy Persian cooking method.

We are super picky about the rice that we purchase. The rice must be a beautiful long grain Basmati rice, there are lots of brands out there, but not all rice is created equally. Knowing what rice grain will grow with cooking and has a great flavor is a trade secret.

Our Persian cooking method is pretty fancy:

1. The dry rice is soaked in salt water overnight. (This salting while soaking really goes a long way)
2. The salt water is drained off.
3. The rice is partially cooked in a huge pot of boiling fresh water.
4. The boiling rice pot is strained, and rinsed (think pasta).
5. The rice is returned to the pot, the burner is set to full blast for a secret amount of time…then,
6. The burner is turned down very low (also for a secret amount of time), steaming the rice under a cloth covered lid.

All this happens for every pot of rice we make.

This may sound like a lot of work, and it is, but he end result is totally worth it: a light, fluffy mountain of basmati rice. The straining and rinsing removes much of the starch that makes rice stick to itself, so our rice cascades over itself like fluffy white snow. The steaming cooks and humidifies the grain without too much water present (keeping it away from becoming porridge).

Fun fact for health concerns: Basmati Rice has a glycemic index of 52, heck yea, putting it in league with brown rice, and whole wheat bread.
